Wandjina are cloud and rain spirits from the northwestern region of the Kimberleys in Western Australia. They are spirits associated with rain, thunder and lightning. When depicted with only head and shoulders, the Wandjina is said to be moving across the sky in a cloud or storm. For the people of the Mowanjun community, the first Wandjina was Idjair. This signifies the ego-death and physical death of the Spirit. This movement of the piece is the feeling of death, a neutral, sparse, retrospective space punctures by moments of light, release, regret, pain. I wanted the music to depict a barren, other-worldly landscape devoid of flora and fauna, mostly made up of air, perhaps lacking gravity.
