Alterity is an exploration of interdependency between music, movement and visual abstraction. Originally conceived as a "score" for a film inside the artist's head, it was first adapted into a dance performance for 1 dancer and 6 screens (2016). Later it was adapted into a non-dialogue short film (2019), and is now available as a standalone conceptual album.

The conceptual basis for Alterity centres around a distinct narrative of philosophical exploration of understandings of different selves, abstracted through the manipulation of original sound - a culmination of field recording, live acoustic recordings and soft/hardware manipulation, all stitched together to create an immersive world that sweeps the listener into its grasp upon entry, refusing to release and cease the assault until one has submitted into NOTARA's murky world of alterity. This 40-minute continuous piece of ambient music is made up of ‘movements’ that symbolise the cyclical progression of the broader theme of the work. Each of the six movements embodies a particular emotional state, which is represented through kinetic sensation and sonic texture.
